Weiland Cleared for Tour

April 9th, 2004 | Comments Off | Posted in Music

Embattled vocalist Scott Weiland has been cleared by California authorities to tour with his bandmates in Velvet Revolver. The former Stone Temple Pilots frontman has spent the past several months in a court-ordered drug rehabilitation center after pleading no contest last year to heroin possession. But Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash says Weiland will be on board when the band hits the road next month in North America.

“Scott actually just got cleared to tour today,” the guitarist tells Billboard.com excitedly. “We’ve been planning dates this whole time.” The plan for the band, which has played just one live show to date, is to drop in on “medium-sized places” leading up to the June 8 release of its RCA debut, ‘Contraband’.

“The first thing we’re going to go out and do is establish ourselves as our own band in our own environment,” Slash says. “We’re trying to keep it as personal as possible but at the same time, expose ourselves as much as possible. We want to do this on our own terms, as opposed to going out, jumping on the road and opening for somebody, or playing a festival bill, but that is coming.”

The 13-track ‘Contraband’ is led by the single ‘Slither’, which will impact U.S. radio outlets on Monday (April 12) but can already be sampled on Velvet Revolver’s official Web site. And after hedging its bets on Weiland’s uncertain future, Velvet Revolver is finally primed to take its show on the road at full strength. “Everything is great,” Slash beams. “It all seems to be happening for a reason.”

Meganews on Megadeth

April 9th, 2004 | Comments Off | Posted in Music

Lots of news on the Megadeth front lately. Here’s the lowdown on it all:

Megadeth leader Dave Mustaine has revealed the tracklisting for the band’s forthcoming CD, due out later this year through Sanctuary Records. The as-yet-untitled CD will contain the following tracks: ‘Blackmail The Universe’, ‘Shadow Of Death’, ‘My Kingdom’, ‘Of Mice And Men’, ‘Truth Be Told’, ‘The Scorpion’, ‘Kick The Chair’, ‘Something That I’m Not’, ‘Tears In A Vial’, ‘Die Dead Enough’, ‘Back In The Day’.

iateyourmicrophone.com reports that the upcoming batch of remastered albums from Megadeth will all see a release on July 13th, through Capitol Records. Discs receiving the treatment, which will also be backed with four bonus tracks apiece (bar Risk) include: Craving, Countdown To Extinction, Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?, Rust In Peace, So Far So Good… So What?, Youthanasia, Cryptic Writings and Risk.

Click here to download a new unmastered version of the MD45 song ‘The Day The Music Died’ with Dave Mustaine doing vocals. This will be available on the forthcoming reissue of the MD45 album, The Craving. Originally former Fear vocalist Lee Ving sang on the song.

Former Megadeth guitarist commented on the forthcoming remixed Megadeth reissues that frontman Dave Mustaine worked on. Marty said, “After I heard the amazing remixes Dave did with Peace Sells, I was way excited to find out that he was planning to give the same treatment to the other albums. Much as I would love to be a part of hearing the new mixes for the first time, I have touring and recording obligations all the way up until August. Please don’t let normal stuff like that get your panties in a wad. Get over it. The albums are gonna slam.”

Canadian Online Music Swapping Legal

April 1st, 2004 | Comments Off | Posted in Music

No need to worry about lawsuits if you share MP3’s online in Canada after Wednesday’s decision. Here’s a clip from the full article you can read HERE:

Individuals who share personal copies of music files on the internet are safe after a Federal Court rejected a motion on Wednesday that would have allowed the music industry to sue them.

Justice Konrad von Finckenstein said the Canadian Recording Industry Association hadn’t shown copyright infringement by 29 people who had allowed their music files to be uploaded.

Making files available in online, shared directories is within the bounds of Canadian copyright law, von Finckenstein ruled.
