Stephen King’s The Dark Tower

March 8th, 2004 | 1 Comment | Posted in General, Television

I was doing my usual site searching tonight and decided to check out Stephen King’s site since I hadn’t been there in a while. While I was there I noticed that they said the premiere of Kingdom Hospital did better than any ABC dramatic series in over 5 years. They also had posted the updated release dates to the final 2 chapters in the Dark Tower series and the cover image to the next chapter. Here are the dates and cover shot:

The Dark Tower: Song of Susannah (June 8th, 2004)
The Dark Tower: The Dark Tower (September 21st, 2004)

Snow Storm brings State of Emergency

February 19th, 2004 | Comments Off | Posted in General

Well, the weather outside is horrible here in Nova Scotia today. A lot of snow has fallen and more is still to come. So far there has been 50 cm (20″) down and the winds are high. Hopefully the power will remain on today. Here’s some more info on the storm from CTV.ca.

Nova Scotia declared a state of emergency this morning as a winter storm unlike any other this season slammed into parts of the Maritimes.

Halifax appears to be hardest hit. Between 48 to 50 centimetres had fallen by lunch time in the city, leaving the area in a standstill.

Already, wind gusts as high as 100 kilometres per hour are creating whiteout conditions, leaving roads undriveable.

According to CTV’s John Vennavally-Rao, Halifax police say they will not respond to any call unless it is a life-threatening situation. The same is for other emergency services.

Google Downs University Server

Too many hits from Google has taken down a University server in Australia. Here’s a clip from the ZDNet Australia article. You can also read their comments on the site’s disappearance HERE.

Having your Web site listed in the top few returns of a Google search has long been recognised as one of the best ways to attract visitors to your site. What happens when your site is effectively listed at the top of every Google search?

The astronomy department of Swinburne University found that out on Tuesday when Google ran a special logo celebrating the birthday of mathematician Gaston Julia. When users clicked on the logo they were taken to an image search page for the terms “Julia” and “fractal”.

However, two of the most popular images were hosted on a server at Swinburne University which subsequently failed when the server was “swamped by requests”. The server was only made functional again by moving the Web pages to a different location.

Work

Updates are slow these days. There hasn’t been a great deal of interest for me to post about. I am also very busy trying to find work. While looking for work I have created a second website to try to drum up some work for myself. You can check out the site at iTechworks.zorlac.ca. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Aluminum Foil Prank

January 8th, 2004 | Comments Off | Posted in General

Now this would have been something you have to almost see to believe. Fortunately, the story has some pictures included. Here’s a clip from the story.

Chris Kirk laughs while walking through the front room of his apartment, which his friend, Luke Trerice, decked in aluminum foil. Kirk had gone out of town and let Trerice use the apartment, giving Trerice the opportunity for the practical joke.

A lone book titled “Cruel Tricks for Dear Friends” was untouched.

But nearly everything else in Chris Kirk’s downtown Olympia apartment was encased in aluminum foil when he returned home Monday night from a trip to Los Angeles.

Updates

January 7th, 2004 | Comments Off | Posted in General, Movies, Website

Well, I haven’t posted in a while and for that I’m sorry. There isn’t a lot that’s going on this time of the year with the holidays just ending, but things will pick up soon. I’m pretty busy right now securing some more work so that’s taking a bit of time. Underworld came out Tuesday on DVD. I hope to get that some day soon. I read some disappointing news on the Kill Bill movies. The DVD originally to come out in February has been delayed and Vol.2 is delayed hitting theatres until April I believe it was. The site may be down temporary in the near future for a little while one day. I am looking at upgrading the main page code. On one last note, I was in the local newspaper today because I put together a web site quickly last weekend for a local group. You can check out the article that I recreated in html HERE.

Well, it is now New Year’s Eve day. S.W.A.T. came out yesterday on DVD and I finally got to pick it up this afternoon. It’s a great action movie if you haven’t seen it already. Anyways, tonight should be fun. We are going to the Engine Room to bring in the New Year and one of my favorite local bands are playing… Shameless. So a big Happy New Year to everyone, may you all have a great 2004.
